WANGCHEN RINPOCHE

BIOGRAPHY

Dorje Chang Kalu Rinpoche has publicly introduced Wangchen Rinpoche as "Kalu the younger," his meditation companion in Tibet.

At the age of seven, Wangchen Rinpoche entered Sonada monastery. He studied, lived, and traveled with Dorje Chang Kalu Rinpoche from that time until entering the traditional three year retreat at the age of sixteen. Since then, he has been teaching in the lineage of Buddha Vajradhara. He also sponsored the Monlam ceremony in Bodhgaya, India, for three consecutive years.

He has been working on rebuilding Shangpa Monastery in Tibet, and, with Dorje Chang Kalu Rinpoche, is renewing monasteries and nunneries in Kham, in Eastern Tibet. He has also been involved in the opening of Began Monastery and Gesar Monastery. He intends to build 108 three-year retreat centers in Asia, the United States, and elsewhere, because retreat centers are the heart of Buddha Dharma. He also aspires to build 108 stupas, which he feels is one of the most beneficial spiritual activities one can engage in.
