BRUCE NEWMAN
BIOGRAPHY
I was born in Los Angeles in 1950 and graduated from UCSB in Physical
Chemistry in 1972.
From 1975 to 1988 I was pretty much a full time Dharma student spending most
of my time meditating. My main teachers for this period were Geshe Ngawang
Dhargyey in Dharamsala, India, Venerable Gyatrul Rinpoche in Oakland,
California, and Khenchen Thrangu Rinpoche, Venerable Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche,
Venerable Zigar Kongtrul Rinpoche and my main teacher, Venerable Chokyi Nyima
Rinpoche in Kathmandu, Nepal.
From 1989 to 1993 I did a traditional four-year retreat at Kagyu Samye Ling
in Scotland under the guidance of H.E. Taisitu Rinpoche, Venerable Akong
Rinpoche, Khenchen Thrangu Rinpoche, and Lama Yeshe Losel.
Upon completion of the retreat I returned to America and settled near Gyatrul
Rinpoche's retreat center, Tashi Choling, outside Ashland, Oregon and continued
my contemplative live. After about a year I was requested to teach. Both Gyatrul
Rinpoche and Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche have authorized me to teach and have given me
the title 'lama.'
I have taught and lectured in several venues in California and Oregon.
In 2001, I created and began Marig Munsel, a four-year training program at
Tashi Choling. I began a similar program at the Yeshe Nyingpo center in
Portland. I got married in 1998 and now reside in Ashland.
