The Sogan Foundation of San Francisco is a secular entity with purposes inspired by the teachings of the Sakyamuni Buddha. Through compassionate giving and service, we aspire to bring hope and opportunity to those most in need. The Sogan Foundation’s first project is the establishment of The Tibetan Institute of Science and Technology (TIST) in Golok, Tibet. Kunzang Palyul Choling Kunzang Palyul Choling (KPC), a Tibetan Buddhist Center for Study and Practice in the Nyingma Tradition, under the spiritual direction of Jetsunma Ahkon Lhamo, is contributing substantial amounts of food to help feed those people displaced by Hurricane Katrina and is working with local aid groups to provide assistance to those relocated to both Arizona and Maryland. Request for Pets Made Homeless by Flooding by Kadampa Center, Raleigh, NC The Stroms (the couple making the next trip) have been able to purchase a large quantity of much needed crate fans to keep homeless animals cool in the outdoors. Now all they need are "C" batteries - about 400 of them. Also needed are tarps, shade awnings and anything else you can think of to keep these animals cool and happy! I'm sure the dogs would also appreciate more chew toys and treats. more...

The Initiative serves to promote the study and appreciation of Tibetan language, religion, and culture through academic courses, public lectures, symposia, exhibitions, performances, and other special events open to the public, in cooperation with other units both at Stanford and within the broader Bay Area community.
