Tibetan Refugee Health Care Project
Projects Update
We're taking action to address the continuing dire needs of the exiled Tibetan refugee community living in settlement camps in India, and the poor Indian people living in those remote areas.
Therefore, we again urge you to support the ongoing efforts of our organization and to please pass the word to others. Our immediate attention is focused on:
URGENT: Water, an ongoing project:
Our goal is to bring water purification systems to as many of the Tibetan schools and Tibetan homes for the elderly as possible. There are hundreds of these facilities within the settlement camps. There are also small Indian schools needing help. In many places the water is polluted and each year, especially during the rainy season, June through September, people get sick. In fact, through the years, many children have died. I have worked with Tibetan refugees and poor Indians living in remote areas for the past 22 years, and have personally witnessed thousands of patients with compromised health as a result of water related problems. There are a multitude of ways to install purification systems. Some are quite simple involving a water source, a purification unit, and a holding tank.
Others have involved the construction of a concrete or brick hut that can house the unit and be locked. The size of the units and the holding tanks also vary greatly dependent upon the number of people to be serviced and the environmental conditions. Each situation is different.
[] Since 2002, we have successfully installed 38 water purification systems. This has greatly reduced the incidence of water-borne contaminants and is improving health in those locations. We have indoor systems with large holding tanks as well as outdoor sites offering clean drinking water to the community. Of the people who use the systems, no one has become ill from contaminated water at those locations. There is much more to do.
Now that the rainy season has begun, we must act quickly to make the children's schools and homes for the elderly safe. You can make a difference. The purification systems cost can range from $300 to $1000 per unit and each school or home for the elderly may need a few units. We work very hard to keep our operating costs at a minimum. Your donation will enable us to purchase, install, and service these water purification systems.
Tax-deductible contributions can be made by check, payable to Alternative Resources TRHCP. Please designate in the memo that your donation is for our water project. Your donation can be sent directly to our accounting department, Labush and Company, 245 Waterman St. Suite 502, Providence, RI 02906 USA. There are many more phases to our water projects - digging wells, overhead tanks, piped water into homes, creating motes supporting purification systems on a larger scale, solar systems, and wind power. If you are interested in supporting these larger projects please contact our administrative offices for more details.
Thank you for helping us to help others,
