A Construction Project & Appeal for Demo Meditation & Ancient Medical Institute

The Fifth Pora Rinpoche, the present head & teacher of Demo Meditation and Ancient Medical Institute, is a lineage holder of the previous four great masters of Tibetan Healing Arts and Meditation. The institute is located at Demo, Nangchen region in Kham, Eastern Tibet.

Pora Rinpoche was born in Nangchen, Tibet in a nomadic family. At an early age, he became interested in Buddha's teachings. He joined a Monastic Institute of the Sakyapa Order.

One day, as a young man, he wished to leave for pilgrimage. Fortunately, he met a companion pilgrim who led him to the famous Palpung retreat center founded by Jamgon Kongtrul Lodro Thaye, one of the great masters of the 19th century in Tibet. At the center, he met an old physician who was a student of Jamgon Kongtrul Lodro Thaye.

Ven. Yonten Phuntsok, the old physician of the center, advised and taught him about Tibetan healing arts and meditation. Pora Rinpoche spent five years and accomplished the ancient healing studies thoroughly. Then he returned back home and married and settled with a local girl. Unexpectedly, the region was visited by an entourage of Tai Situ Rinpoche looking for the reincarnation of the previous Pora Rinpoche of Kagyu Order. As per prophecy, Pora was recognized as the reincarnation of the Rinpoche.

The previous four Pora Rinpoches had been very renowned meditation teachers and physicians in Tibet. The fourth Pora Rinpoche had studied and was a close disciple of Jamgon Lodro Thyaye at Palpung Retreat Center. After the graduation, Jamgon Lodro Thaye Rinpoche had instructed the fourth Pora Rinpoche to return back home. Back home, Rinpoche had established two retreat centers and taught there for his whole life.

Unfortunately, in the 20th century and during the Cultural Revolution, almost all the buildings were destroyed but many old physicians and monks survived this devastation. With the permission of Chinese government, we sincerely wish to rebuild Demo Meditation and Ancient Medical Institute, and it is our urgent task to resume the services and other activities of the Institute. Pora Rinpoche has received many profound teachings and empowerments from different great teachers such as 17th Gyalwa Karmapa, Khenchen Thrangu Rinpoche and Khenpo Tsultrim Gyamtso Rinpoche, and as per their advise and instructions, he is touring many western countries to raise funds towards the construction projects by offering therapeutic services and meditation teachings. Recent visit to Malaysia was a huge success by curing a cancer patient who spread this news in different national papers. As aresult, the President of Malaysia summoned Rinpoche. After enquiries and investigations, the President recommended and legalized the ancient medical therapy of Tibet.

Estimated Expenses for the Project
Location: Tashi Thang, Nangchen.The area consists of 100 acres of land. One acre is projected for Institute building and the rest of 99 acres considered for different herbs cultivation and production. They want to build a 128 room/hostel ($128,000), a meditation hall ($278,000), and an eleven room clinic $ 30,000. The total construction estimate is $436,000
