Cultural Restoration Tourism Project Seeks Volunteers

For the last three years, Cultural Restoration Tourism Project (CRTP) has been working with a Buddhist community in Mongolia to help them restore their temple building. The monastery at Baldan Baraivan was once the hub of eastern Mongolia and the third largest monastery in the country. During the Mongolian purges of the 1930’s the estimated 75,000 monks, lamas and nuns were systematically slaughtered or imprisoned, and the temples were destroyed. Now, CRTP with the help and support of the local community is restoring the main temple at Baldan Baraivan.

The restoration is taking part with the help from volunteers throughout the world. Volunteers not only help in the restoration process but are able to practice and participate in the ceremonies and rituals being held at the monastery. This is really a unique chance to help a community rebuild its heritage as well as be involved in a spiritual journey.

The community at Baldan Baraivan appreciates all of the aide they have received to this point, but there is still a lot to accomplish.
