Tibetan Refugee Documentary Project
The main purpose of this Tibetan Refugee Documentary Project is to use video-documentaries to raise and enhance awareness about the situations of Tibetan refugees. The media context of the Project is that mass media outlets tend to avoid much criticism of China's activities in Tibet. Some of China's critics, meanwhile, use the Tibet issue merely as an excuse to bash China, without careful attention to Tibetans or their goals. Many supporters of the Tibetans, on the other hand, idealize Tibetans uncritically, in what has been called Shangri-la syndrome. The producers seek support, especially grants, for the distribution of Volume One,
and for the production of Volume Two. Please help.

"Volunteers for Dharamsala"
San Diego Friends of Tibet created this program in 1998 to send volunteers to Dharamsala and other parts of India to serve the needs of the Tibetans in exile. I recently returned from India where I visited the places requesting volunteers, including the Tibetan Government in Exile and other programs. If nothing in the current list of openings fits with your skills and interests, but you'd like to be notified of future openings, please e-mail me and I'll add you to our list. The program is open to volunteers from anywhere in the world, as long as you speak English, Tibetan or Hindi. No one is paid, and no fees are charged. You need to go at your own expense. Some of the positions provide housing— some don't. Assignments tend to be long-term, from one month up to a full year. Being a volunteer will give you an experience of immersion in the beautiful Tibetan culture, and an opportunity to really make a difference. The giving and receiving blend into one. Returning volunteers say they quickly became part of a close, loving community. Current openings are for: ESL teachers, trainers to the monks in Namgyal Monastery in video editing, physiotherapists, speech therapists, doctors and nurses, quantitative analysis people, project management people, and small business development. For more information, contact Dory Beatrice, Coordinator, dorykb@san.rr.com
The Khawachen Assistance Program (KAP)
is a special project of the Tibet Fund, a not-for profit organization dedicated to preserving Tibetan culture and to improve all aspects of life for the Tibetan people. With the opening up of Tibet, many Tibetans, both inside Tibet and in exile, agree that it is time to offer assistance to Tibetan programs and projects inside Tibet. Tibetans in remote and rural areas of Tibet are especially in pressing need of assistance in many areas. Malnutrition, high infant mortality, inadequate medical services, illiteracy and lack of vocational training and job opportunities exacerbate the widening gap between the urban and the remote rural population in Tibet. KAP focuses on health, education and economic development projects for the nomadic and rural areas and for primary schools. We place special emphasis on education and scholarships.

The Dolpo Project
was founded in 1997 to aid and support the cultural survival of the Tibetan people. In Inner Dolpo where populations are thin and most family groups live outside the money economy, the monasteries are unlikely to survive without some outside support. In anticipation of the incarnation of the next Shey tulku, local villagers will prepare Shey gompa (monastery). For the past 30 years the wooden floor of Shey gompa has been unfinished. There is no wood in the area, as Shey was built in high desert above the treeline. The wood for flooring needs to be purchased in Juphal and carried over a 17,500-foot pass to Shey.A precious collection of sacred texts from all lineages of Tibetan Buddhism is being eaten by field mice. Monastery buildings are crumbling. The lamas of Shey need food supplies for the winter, warm clothing and medical attention. At the heart of Tibetan Buddism is profound respect for the ascetic and contemplative nature of the individual. Some of the great lamas in recent years have spent more than a third of their lives in reatreat. A remote cave or hermitage provides the ideal location for the process of deep retreat. However, the very remoteness of the Shey monasteries acts against their survival. Your gift to The Dolpo Project will help to fill these needs. The Tibetans believe that we accumulate merit from positive action. This merit is continually dedicated to the benefit of all beings.

JJI Exile Brothers
We are Tibetans in Exile, this of course you already know. But what does this really mean? For us it means that we have lived in India for our entire lives, never being able to see our mother land of Tibet. Our music is our only way of expressing ourselves and our frustrations. We have very limited access to good equipment, this is a comprehensive lacking. We can't get good instruments, sound equipment, recording equipment or even a place where the acoustics are good enough to project our true sound. What we need is an opportunity to come to the west, preferably America, considering it's political stature, growing number of Tibetan supporters and of course english being our second language, it makes America the right choice for us

The Tibetan Solidarity Alliance Blue Book Project
Tibetans have a living culture that is slowly dying. Tibet’s unique culture and religion is systematically being destroyed, and is in danger of being lost forever. This is a crucial and promising time for the people of Tibet. The release of major motion pictures about Tibet, the Tibetan Freedom Concerts and the Tibetan Folklife Festival, as well as the newly established and expanded Tibet support groups throughout the world have increased awareness of their plight. The knowledge that others are firmly committed to their peaceful struggle, and that together they are raising their voices in protest, is an important source of strength for the Tibetan people.
