Tibetan Meditation Center Celebrates 25th Anniversary

by Victoria Dolma

Welcoming a full house, Drupon Trinley Nyingpo lauded the tireless efforts of founder Khenchen Konchog Gyaltshen in making the TMC flourish for a quarter century. In Tibet, many people bear the name of Khenpo, he stated, but in terms of having the full complement of training-the vows of individual liberation, Bodhisattva vows, and mastery of the five fields of knowledge-he is a master Khenpo.

A letter was then read from the current head of Drikung Thil, the home monastery of the Drikung in Tibet, stating that Khenchen completely disregards his own immense fatigue in his continuing efforts not only to bring the Drikung teachings to the West, but to revitalize their transmission in Tibet, where they had long languished following the Cultural Revolution.

Khenchen himself then greeted the audience. Coming to life in his enthusiasm for his topic, Khenchen then went on to talk about the Dharma itself.

"Don't take the Dharma as a second step. It should be the focus of our life. A confused person can't practice the Dharma well. You must be a precision thinker. Enlightenment isn't going somewhere else; look at your own mind. It's for this purpose that we built the center."
