International Congress on Buddhist Women's Role in the Sangha

An international public congress with His Holiness the Dalai Lama and leading buddhist monks and nuns will be held in Hamburg from July 18-20, 2007 on the topic of re-establishing full ordination of Buddhist nuns. The conference is titled "1st International Congress on Buddhist Women's Role in the Sangha: Bhikshuni Vinaya and Ordination Lineages" and is being held at the University of Hamburg. The Dalai Lama will be the Keynote speaker at the conference.

Some of the topics to be discussed are:
  • Status of Women in Buddhism
  • Controversy over Full Ordination for Women in Buddhism
  • Procedures for the Full Ordination of Women
  • Implications of Full Ordination for Women in Buddhist Societies
  • Potential for Restructuring Buddhism in Line with Gender Equality
