Thrangu Rinpoche Teaching on Mountain Doctrine
From July 20th through July 29th, 2007 Thrangu Rinpoche will give a commentary for the first time ever in the West on the text by Dolpopa Sherab Gyaltsen, Mountain Doctrine. This text was recently translated by Jeffrey Hopkins and published by Snow Lion.
The retreat will be held at the Keystone Resort, one hour from the Denver airport.
Dolpopa's teachings on the Shentong—or other-emptiness view—are resurfacing after hundreds of years. This commentary by Khenchen Thrangu Rinpoche will be a rare opportunity to hear about what was considered revolutionary in the 1300s. The view that was mostly propagated for hundreds of years to the present is the self-empty view known as Rangtong. This statement by Dolpopa gives an idea of the importance of the Shentong view: "Meditation on self-emptiness (Rangtong) brings about a temporary reduction of the coarse level of obstructions, but meditation on other-emptiness (Shentong) is required for eliminating them entirely."
