Namgyal Monastery Institute of Buddhist Studies'

Pilgrimage to Buddhist India

"In Search of the Buddha: A Spiritual Pilgrimage to Bodhagaya and the Sacred Heart of Buddhist India" tour, 2007

February 10th to March 2nd, 2007
(Three weeks)

Namgyal Monastery Institute of Buddhist Studies, His Holiness the Dalai Lama's monastery in America, is sponsoring a three-week pilgrimage tour to sacred Buddhist sites in India, including Bodhgaya, Sarnath, Varanasi and Nalanda.

In the Buddhist faith, a pilgrimage to holy places can help one accumulate great amounts of merit and purify the karma of past negative deeds. A Buddhist pilgrimage can also help revitalize one's spiritual practice by creating a sense of peace and joy with accomplishment, and by inspiring greater faith.

Please accompany us on a spiritual three week pilgrimage into the heart of India's Buddhist holy land, led by experienced monks, teachers and guides from Namgyal Monastery. See Bodhagaya's beautiful Mahabodhi Stupa during the Tibetan Losar celebration, and offer prayers and butter lamps at the site of the Buddha's great enlightenment. Take a sunrise boat ride on the Ganges to view the ancient burning ghats at Varanasi, and visit the deer park at Sarnath where the Buddha first turned the wheel of Dharma. Visit famous Vulture's Peak where the Buddha turned the second wheel of Dharma with the Prajnaparamita Sutras, and experience the serenity of Kushinagar, the site of the Buddha's final passing into Mahaparinirvana. This special pilgrimage will also include visits to the sacred Buddhist sites of Vaishali, as well as the ruins of the great monastic university at Nalanda.

Again, please join us for a fascinating look at India's historic Buddhist holy land and receive the blessings of teachings, prayers and meditation at the world's most sacred Buddhist locations.

Cost for the tour:
$3765.00 (includes round trip international airfare)
      $2765.00 (without airfare)
