To compile the guide, author Keith Dowman followed in Jamyang Kyentse's footsteps, visiting 150 temples, monasteries, sacred caves, lakes and mountains. Some of these are easily accessible to tourist groups; others have to be reached on foot--and others have rarely been visited by foreigners. Packed with information on pilgrimage routes in Tibet, the book provides geographical and historical information as well as trekking maps.
