SHAKYAMUNI WITH PEACEFUL AND WRATHFUL DEITIES Card

(Tibetan: Sakya Thub-pa) Shakyamuni, the historical Buddha, is depicted with his two main disciples Maudgalyayana and Shariputra to his right and left, and surrounded by the three main yidams, bodhisattvas and protectors of the Gelugpa School of Tibetan Buddhism. Above to his right are the three main Gelugpa yidams or tantri deities- Guhyasamaja, Chakrasamvara and Vajrabhairava. Above to his left are the three great bodhisattvas- Avalokiteshvara, Manjushri and Vajrapani- representing the compassion, wisdom and energy of all the Buddhas. Above Shakyamuni's head is the primordial Buddha Vajradhara- the dharmakaya manifestation in which the Buddha appears to reveal the tantras. Below Shakyamuni are the three great dharma protectors of Vaishravana, Six-armed Mahakahala and Dharmaraja.
