LONGCHEN NYINGTHIG PRELIMINARIES "THE EXCELLENT PATH TO OMNISCIENCE": A Rich Collection of Texts, Commentaries, and Prayers for the Practice by Tony Duff, with the Padma Karpo Translation Committee 292 pp., 2 color plates, Tibetan texts. #LONYPR - $ 25.00 This book is a complete resource for the Longchen Nyingthig preliminaries. It contains a fresh translation of the liturgy by the first Dodrupchen. There are three major commentaries to the Longchen Nyingthig, each showing the practice from a different perspective. Commentary by Khyentse Wangpo is a manual of procedures for the practice. Commentary by Yukhog Chadralwa, a highly realized master of the late twentieth century whose works have not been seen in English so far, is an advanced commentary that shows how the preliminaries lead into the main practices of Thorough Cut (Thregcho) and Direct Crossing (Thogal). These two commentaries were written by Tibetans for Tibetans and sometimes need clarification for Westerners. Therefore, the author has written an extensive commentary that elucidates the meaning of the liturgy in clear English. The commentary is written by a qualified Western teacher. All three commentaries contain many quotes from great masters of the lineage which give further insight into the meaning of the practice. The author's commentary contains deep explanations given by the current Dodrupchen in one of his major commentaries. More ... | |

NGONDRO COMMENTARY: Instructions for the Concise Preliminary Practices of the New Treasure of Dudjom by H.E. Chagdud Tulku Rinpoche, compiled by Jane Tromge 152 pp., 5 line drawings, paper. #NGCO - $ 13.95 "The Ngondro, or Preliminary, practices in Tibetan Buddhism establish the foundation for the entire Vajrayana path—they are as fundamental to the practitioner's development as the alphabet is to written language. Among the preliminaries of the various lineages, the Dudjom Tersar Ngondro of the Nyingma tradition is possibly the most concise. Written, then concealed in the eighth century by Padmasambhava (Guru Rinpoche), it was intended for these degenerate times when few people have leisure to practice. His Holiness Dudjom Lingpa revealed this treasure; his incarnation, His Holiness Dudjom Jigdral Yeshe Dorje, from whom I had the excellent fortune to receive these teachings, clarified the text and taught it widely.
